Stop trying to make fiber happen

‘Fiber will be the next craze after protein’ has been said to me one too many times to keep taking it seriously.

A table setting featuring two dessert plates. One plate has pancakes topped with whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, and strawberries, while the other features yogurt accompanied by granola, berries, and slices of kiwi and banana. A small dish of chocolate sauce is also visible on the table.
Fiber is unsexy

All protein everything

When I tell you protein is a craze, I mean it in the most literal sense. Protein coffees, candy, and even rice cakes have hit the shelves over the past decade, and there seems to be no sign of things slowing down. Each time I enter the supermarket, a new protein product seems to be shoved in my face.

…Fiber?

Any doctor will tell you fiber is important. And statistics don’t lie: more people get too little fiber than too little protein. But for something to be a craze, people have to buy into it.

Head to head

Dare I say protein has something …. sexy? It aids muscle build and getting your ideal body. Fiber, the cure to bad bowel movement, just isn’t the same.

The front lines

I’ll admit I was waving the fiber flag long before the craze even started. Whenever my friends talked about the benefits of protein, I would talk about the fiber deficiency most people had. ‘It’ll fill you up more,’ I’d say. But with terms like ‘weightloss’ and ‘diet’ out and ‘muscle building’ and ‘lifestyle’ in.
